Been working on a little side project called RetroStream. It’s a self-hosted server that takes YouTube videos or playlists, converts them into old Windows Media-compatible streams, and lets retro PCs play them directly in Windows Media Player or even Winamp. It supports audio/video playlists, metadata, caching, permanent playlist links, and even passes song info through WMP so MSN/Windows Live Messenger can show what you’re listening to. The plan is to make it fully open source, with a proper Windows XP-style interface, and eventually package it so you can spin it up as a Docker container with basically one click. Still a work in progress, but the core idea already works — modern YouTube in, retro Windows Media out. 😎
